Therapy results
Targeted programme
Hand rehabilitation after a stroke is a long-term process that is carried out on the basis of short-term goals.
In hand rehabilitation after a stroke, it is essential to encourage you to involve the hand in everyday activities. This becomes possible when you notice improved sensation, reduced sensitivity to touch and temperature, and an increased range of movement.
The therapist’s role is not simply to carry out exercises. When restoring upper limb function, it is also very important how the changes taking place are explained to you. Therapeutic methods applied appropriately, with the right intensity and frequency, bring you and your therapist closer to achieving a shared, long-term goal.
During a rehabilitation stay focused on restoring upper limb function, we prepare the hand structurally so that it is ready to take on its sensory, grasping, manipulative and protective functions.
We deliver therapy targeting both fine motor skills and gross motor skills. We work on the relevant muscle groups. We reduce spastic muscle tension. We take care of your psychological comfort, which is the foundation of an effective recovery process — not only for the upper limb, but also within comprehensive therapy after a stroke.
Working to restore upper limb function is not only about working with the hand itself, but also with the side affected indirectly and directly. This is why skilful selection of therapeutic methods offers the chance of better function in everyday life.
During the rehabilitation stay, we focus on individual work between the physiotherapist and you, 5×45 minutes daily from Monday to Friday and 2×45 minutes on Saturday. We also issue certificates confirming a rehabilitation stay booking, which are required for qualification for botulinum toxin injections.

How we work
Hand rehabilitation after a stroke is not limited solely to working with the directly affected side, but also with the indirectly affected side — the one often referred to as the healthy side.
This is why working to restore the hand after a stroke is a comprehensive therapeutic effort that gives maximum priority to restoring hand function.
We work exclusively with manual methods which, based on our more than 28 years of experience, produce the best results and are irreplaceable in professional rehabilitation after a stroke.
Effectiveness
Progress in hand rehabilitation is usually not as rapid and spectacular as with the general rehabilitation of a patient in the immediate aftermath of a stroke.
From our experience and the statistics we keep, however, we know that professionally delivered rehabilitation offers a good chance of restoring hand function, as well as improving the patient’s mobility and independence in everyday life. Where the dominant problem is paresis of the hand and upper limb, we work on it in a targeted, step-by-step way.
In the videos below, you can see the rehabilitation outcomes of our patients.
What sets us apart
The key elements of the hand rehabilitation programme after a stroke.
Hand rehabilitation after a stroke is more effective thanks to the collaboration of the whole therapeutic team.
An individual rehabilitation programme is developed for each patient.
We focus entirely on one patient at a time. We do not run group sessions.
From 54 to 108 individual sessions. Each session lasts 45 minutes.
Rehabilitation with us, with accommodation anywhere you like — even by the sea.
Patients respond very well to our rehabilitation programme, provided it is well matched to the needs of each individual case.
The role of the hand
The hand fulfils a range of functions. One of them is helping to maintain the balance of the whole body.
This is precisely why hand rehabilitation after a stroke is so important throughout the patient’s rehabilitation process. Progress in hand rehabilitation after a stroke can also enable further results in the area of gait and balance disorders, because a stable upper limb supports postural control.
A hand rehabilitation programme after a stroke can therefore contribute to improving the patient’s functional condition — not only with regard to upper limb function, but also throughout the whole body.
Accommodation
There are three accommodation options, differing in architectural accessibility and in the waiting time for admission to the centre.
The first option is accommodation that is fully adapted for people with disabilities, with a lift and rehabilitation beds. The second option is accommodation for people who can walk and climb stairs. The third option is accommodation in the form of an independent apartment near the rehabilitation centre.
Whenever the patient’s functional condition allows, the most comfortable accommodation is an apartment around 1–3 km from the centre. You can arrange comfortable accommodation on your own or with our help, while taking part in your rehabilitation here at our centre.
Thanks to its proximity to the Baltic Sea, Koszalin has a large range of accommodation, much of it also adapted for people with disabilities: with lifts, ramps, spacious level-access showers and free of architectural barriers.

Frequently asked questions
The answer is not clear-cut, but it is honest. Some patients achieve spectacular results within the first few weeks of rehabilitation. For others, the results are moderate, and a small number of people achieve minimal results. We achieve a high level of effectiveness through rehabilitation tailored to the needs of each patient individually.
Our staff are happy to help you find accommodation and to send you suggestions; however, the booking and any costs relating to accommodation and possible meals at the property remain the responsibility of the patient or their family.
There are chances, but how much can be achieved in hand rehabilitation after a stroke depends on many factors. We write about this in more detail in our article on when hand function returns after a stroke. It is worth seeing this programme as well-chosen, intensive, targeted work, rather than a promise of identical results for every patient.
